Position Overview
We are seeking a Communication Designer, UX to join a collaborative Customer Experience team focused on transforming design concepts, research insights, and strategies into compelling visual narratives. This role blends visual storytelling, systems thinking, and design craft to make complex ideas accessible and engaging for teams and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate has strong design sensibilities, experience working in UX or product environments, and the ability to distill complex ideas into simple, elegant visual communication.
Key Responsibilities
Design visually compelling presentations, storyboards, and visual narratives for design reviews, research readouts, and executive communication.
Translate UX concepts, research findings, and design strategies into clear, impactful visual stories.
Create iconography, diagrams, and illustrations to support design documentation and product storytelling.
Collaborate with UX Designers, Researchers, and Product stakeholders to visualize frameworks, insights, and design principles.
Develop and maintain visual storytelling standards and reusable design assets to ensure consistency across teams.
Craft short, engaging visual stories or motion pieces (storyboards, animations, or prototypes) to communicate intent and impact.
Contribute to the evolution of internal design systems and communication templates.
Advocate for clear, creative, and human-centered visual communication as a core part of the UX process.
Required Skills & Qualifications
2–5 years of experience in Communication Design, Visual Design, or a related field (preferably within UX, product, or digital organizations).
Strong portfolio showcasing presentation design, iconography, storytelling, and visual design work for digital experiences.
Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop).
Excellent understanding of layout, hierarchy, typography, and color theory.
Ability to translate abstract or technical ideas into accessible visual frameworks.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across design and business teams.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience creating motion graphics or interactive prototypes using tools such as After Effects, Principle, or similar.
Familiarity with design systems, UX workflows, and digital product storytelling.
Experience developing design standards or reusable communication templates.
Advanced PowerPoint or presentation design experience.
Work Schedule & Details
Location: Chicago or Houston (Hybrid – in office typically Wednesdays or as needed)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM CST
Travel: None anticipated (occasional reimbursed travel possible)
Contract Details
Hourly Rate: $50/hour
Employment Type: W-2
Length: 6-month contract with possibility of extension
