Senior Middleware Developer – IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) – Hybrid (Houston, TX)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Middleware Developer with deep hands-on experience in IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) to join a long-term, high-impact project supporting integration and automation initiatives. The ideal candidate will be technically sharp, with a strong background in ESQL, Java, MQ, and integration patterns. This role requires not just development expertise, but also the confidence and leadership to guide best practices and mentor less experienced team members.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain integration services using IBM ACE/IIB, including ESQL and Java components.
Develop and optimize SOAP and REST web services, handling data in XML, JSON, and other formats.
Support and enhance message-oriented middleware solutions using IBM MQ.
Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise in ACE development tools, patterns, and practices.
Collaborate with solution architects, developers, and business analysts to deliver high-quality middleware solutions.
Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and recommend improvements to existing integration workflows.
Assist in the transition from TeamCity to GitHub, and support CI/CD efforts with tools like Harness.
Contribute to cloud-readiness efforts and integrations involving AWS or hybrid environments.
Required Skills & Qualifications
6–8+ years of experience in middleware development, with a strong focus on IBM ACE/IIB.
Expertise in ESQL programming and Java development within integration frameworks.
Proven experience working with IBM MQ, integration patterns, and enterprise service buses (ESBs).
Strong knowledge of web services (SOAP/REST), and data formats like XML/JSON.
Ability to lead conversations, provide expert input, and guide development best practices across teams.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently on complex integration challenges.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
Experience with Operation Decision Manager (ODM).
Familiarity with CI/CD tools, especially Harness, TeamCity, and GitHub Actions.
Exposure to cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
Prior experience with high-scale integrations in aviation or regulated industries (airline experience not required).
Work Schedule & Location
Work Model: Hybrid – Based in Houston, TX.
In-Office Requirement:
Every Wednesday, and
Tuesday–Thursday during the third week of each month.
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST.
Contract Details
Employment Type: Contract.
Contract Length: 6 months, with strong potential for multi-year extension.
Rate Range: Based on experience and seniority; not to exceed $110/hour.
