Android Developer – Hybrid (Chicago, IL)
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Android Developer with deep expertise in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and GraphQL to contribute to an innovative new initiative aimed at delivering high-speed internet access onboard aircraft. As part of the “Starlink” project, you will help build modern Android applications that deliver seamless and responsive user experiences. The ideal candidate excels in declarative UI design, state management, and asynchronous programming—and is passionate about solving real-world problems through intuitive mobile applications.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop high-performance Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
Integrate GraphQL APIs for efficient data communication and real-time interactions.
Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code that meets project standards.
Debug, optimize, and monitor app performance across multiple devices.
Collaborate with UX/UI designers to implement visually appealing, intuitive user interfaces.
Keep current with the latest trends in Android development, Compose UI advancements, and GraphQL practices.
Work cross-functionally with backend engineers, QA, and product managers to define and implement features.
Adhere to Android and Google Play Store development and publishing standards.
Conduct thorough unit and UI testing and contribute to overall testing strategy.
Participate in design reviews, CoderPad assessments, and documentation processes.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Proven experience as an Android Developer with a portfolio of apps published on the Google Play Store.
Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose (must-have).
Experience integrating GraphQL APIs into mobile apps.
Understanding of Android state management tools like LiveData, Flow, and ViewModel.
Experience using Room for local database persistence.
Familiarity with Android frameworks such as WorkManager and Material Design.
Solid experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
Ability to write and maintain comprehensive unit and UI tests.
Comfortable working in Agile development environments.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
Experience with Google Ad Manager.
Backend integration experience, particularly using GraphQL.
Knowledge of cloud-based mobile development tools or infrastructure.
Work Schedule & Location
Work Model: Hybrid – Onsite required in Chicago, IL on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST
Occasional after-hours support may be required for production issues
Contract Details
Project Name: Starlink
Contract Length: Approx. 8 months with the possibility of extension
Employment Type: Contract
Rate Range: $90+ per hour
