UX Researcher – Hybrid, Chicago, IL
Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned UX Researcher III to join a high-performing UX design team focused on elevating user experiences through in-depth research and human-centered insight. The ideal candidate brings a passion for understanding user behavior through both qualitative and quantitative methods and is equally comfortable conducting field research in airports or inflight as they are analyzing behavioral data and presenting strategic recommendations. This role will help drive the user research function from discovery through design iteration and into post-launch insights.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct independent qualitative research across multiple product areas and phases of the design lifecycle.
Execute both moderated and unmoderated usability testing, field visits, ethnographic research, and remote interviews.
Analyze research data to uncover patterns, identify usability issues, and deliver actionable insights.
Work cross-functionally with designers, product managers, and engineers to prioritize research needs and integrate findings into design decisions.
Advocate for the user by presenting clear, well-documented research reports and live presentations to stakeholders.
Assist in identifying and sourcing participants for testing, including airport and inflight ad-hoc research.
Incorporate a working understanding of UX fundamentals and collaborate on early-stage wireframes and flows.
Stay informed about emerging UX trends, tools, and technologies that can improve research impact.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (4+ years in UX research).
5+ years of experience in usability/user research across digital platforms.
Expertise in a variety of research techniques (e.g., field studies, heuristic evaluations, benchmarking, card sorting, survey design).
Proven experience conducting both moderated and unmoderated studies.
Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate data into compelling stories.
Solid understanding of UX principles and human-centered design.
Comfortable conducting ad-hoc research in public-facing environments such as airports or transportation hubs.
Ability to work independently and collaborate in fast-paced environments.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Market Research, or a related field.
Experience with mobile and web usability testing.
Familiarity with remote testing platforms and digital prototyping tools.
Background in human factors, interaction design, or information architecture.
Experience conducting A/B testing or working with analytics platforms.
Work Schedule & Location
Work Model: Hybrid preferred – 1–2 days onsite at Chicago
Location: Chicago highly preferred; open to remote candidates in Central or Eastern Time Zones
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Travel: Up to 40% for field research (reimbursed per policy)
Contract Details
Contract Length: 6 months, with potential for extension
Employment Type: Contract
Rate Range: $80+
