About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Workday Automation Engineer to join our team following a major enterprise modernization from PeopleSoft to Workday. With the core implementation successfully closing out, our focus turns toward long-term operational excellence, agility, and release validation.
In this role, you will serve as the hands-on architect and builder of our automated regression testing infrastructure. Rather than maintaining someone else’s legacy scripts or clicking through manual tests, you will have the autonomy to configure and launch a modern, highly efficient automation framework from the ground up using Playwright. This role is perfect for a self-starting engineer who thrives on building scalable software frameworks and driving technical efficiency.
Our Approach to Technical Agility: While this role lives within our Workday ecosystem, we value architectural engineering logic over platform longevity. If you have deep automation framework mastery and intimately understand enterprise HR lifecycles (e.g., Hire-to-Retire), we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Framework Architecture: Design, develop, and implement automated regression testing frameworks and scripts from scratch to validate enterprise applications and recurring platform releases.
Modern Web Automation: Utilize Playwright as the primary driver for end-to-end UI automation and modern cross-browser testing to build long-term regression efficiencies.
Intelligent Orchestration: Leverage Model Context Protocol (MCP) and API-driven workflows to advance automated test design, optimize test suites, and integrate intelligent, AI-assisted quality engineering capabilities.
System Troubleshooting: Actively monitor, isolate, and debug automation script failures or integration bottlenecks across dynamic, data-heavy enterprise web applications.
Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with IT, HR, and business teams to map out end-to-end user workflows, translating functional requirements into robust automated scripts without creating testing bottlenecks.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Fully document automation architectures, system configurations, and scripting standards to empower a continuously improving automated testing practice.
Required Qualifications
Hands-on Framework Engineering: Proven track record of designing, building, and launching test automation frameworks from scratch (not just running someone else’s scripts).
Core Coding Literacy: Strong programming fundamentals in automation-friendly languages like Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
Enterprise Process Knowledge: Robust functional understanding of large-scale enterprise SaaS or ERP ecosystems. You must naturally grasp the core milestones of the “Hire-to-Retire” or “Hire-to-Pay” data lifecycles.
Adaptable & Consultative Mindset: A tool-agnostic approach to technology. We look for engineers who are open to researching alternative testing methodologies and capable of bringing objective recommendations to complex delivery workflows.
Self-Directed Execution: A true self-starter who can hit the ground running with minimal hand-holding and proactively establish structured automation patterns.
Technical Foundations: Familiarity with XML, XSLT, JSON, APIs (REST/SOAP), version control systems (Git), and basic Agile/SDLC methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct automated testing exposure within the Workday HCM ecosystem (Core HR, Talent Management, or Talent Acquisition).
Prior background as an Integration Developer, Software Engineer, or Configuration Analyst looking to transition full-time into automation framework engineering.
Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or multi-capability automated execution architectures.
